As a member of the laboratory of Dr. Michael L. Fitzgerald, this position will focus on the role that virus infection and drug treatment play in increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease in HIV infected individuals. This translational biology project will involve proteomic and lipidomic profiling of HDL particles obtained from clinical isolates.

Successful candidates for this position will have a PhD, MD or MD/PhD with experience in cell biology and biochemistry. Strong written, communication, and organization skills, as well as a high level of motivation are required.

Technician

An NIH-funded position for a Technician is available immediately within the Lipid Metabolism Unit at the Center for Computational and Integrative Biology. As a member of the laboratory of Dr. Mason Freeman, the person in this position will analyze the lipid transport function of ABCA12 and its relationship to harlequin ichthyosis and development of the skin permeability barrier. Biochemical and mass spectrometry profiling of mice and cells lacking ABCA12 will be used identify how the transporter controls the metabolism and trafficking of skin ceramides that form the lipid permeability barrier.

Successful candidates for this position will have a BS with experience in cell biology and biochemistry. Strong written, communication, and organization skills as well as a high level of motivation are required.
